Winter is a time for snuggling, whether with a partner, or alone under a wonderful, warm, down comforter. And, in the winter, being alone under a snuggly comforter has some distinct advantages! It allows you to take advantage of the nighttime to repair some very rough, winter dry skin. How? Read on . . .
You may have heard about the winter "white glove" treatment for dry skin, but here's how to do it right, from the experts at Galderma who make Cetaphil®.
Do . . .
- Buy a pair of cotton gloves, not wool, not synthetic, but plain old cotton. Also, buy a pair of cotton socks. Why cotton? It breathes, allows air to circulate around your skin.
- Before bedtime wash your hands and feet in warm, sudsy water. Rinse and pat dry lightly. Apply Cetaphil® Moisturizing Cream and work this super emollient cream deep into your hands and feet. Pay special attention to your heels, which tend to be affected badly by cold, dry air. Cetaphil® Moisturizing Cream is often recommended by dermatologists because it doesn't contain additives to irritate sensitive skin. Yet its occlusive formula is perfectly suited to seal precious moisture into your parched skin.
- Put on the socks and gloves and snuggle up for a great night of beauty sleep. This whole process should take no more than five minutes to ensure that you lock the moisture into your skin where it will really do some good.
- In the morning, after you bathe or shower, apply Cetaphil® Moisturizing Lotion all over your skin to keep your skin's moisture quotient high and leave your skin feeling comfortable and touchable.
Don't . . .
- Under any circumstances do not ever use plastic wrap overnight to help seal moisture into your skin. Plastic wrap will not allow air to circulate around your skin and in the morning your skin will look as if you've been sleeping in a giant adhesive bandage – all prune-like and wrinkled! Plastic wrap should only be used as a 15-minute treatment during the day. Not a bad idea if you're going out and realize that your skin could be used as a substitute for an emery board!
Now, about this snuggling up alone – maybe it's time to rethink this. If your partner has rough hands and feet, you might invest in another pair of gloves and socks. Get a "two-for-one" beauty sleep and you'll both be in great shape the next morning!
